Side notes: The art on this manga is a bit crafty and not clean lines though it's not bad just a bit different style. The story is something that we have seen multiple times and that's not the failure of the author as there has been quite many of this same genre stories published. Things get better as we get past the start which sadly has nothing new to give at this time. 
I've not read the novel but I'm definitely putting it onto my ever so long reading list.

He can summon food from other world (Japan) by using magic and gold. He is very down to earth but seems to have some suspicions towards the authority and does not wish to go on war blindly without knowing all the details. It's better to be safe than in the spot of dying.
