Bato.to: A masterpiece that took 18 years to produce, the Shiji deals with major events and personalities of about 2,000 years (down to the author Sima Qian's time), comprising 130 chapters and totaling more than 520,000 words. The Shiji not only was the first general history of its kind attempted in China, but it also set a pattern in organization for dynastic histories of subsequent ages. An artist as well as a historian, Sima Qian succeeded in making events and personalities of the past into living realities for his readers; his biographies subsequently became models for authors of both fiction and history.

Side notes: If you know the original work you may almost give a shout for the manga version that adapts Sima Qian's lifework (Shiji). It's not complete word to word adaptation as that would be almost impossible to be done. For that reason the manga picks up the main lines and composes a version of the original trying to stay true as much as possible in it's own genre. The art is typical for the 1990's and older generation of manga. It can take a bit time to adjust but in general it's on good level. The stories depict the most "interesting" people in their times and are filled with information. It gives almost a complete course to History of China.
