Side note: If you've read The Gamer the story pacing and style shouldn't be any surprise. Although the story is totally different and style isn't like in the Gamer... the feeling you get is the same. At the moment I'd say that I like the Gamer lil bit more mainly 'cause it's been published longer and the characters have grown as personalities.
The Wizardly tower is still a young work having the problems such a work. There isn't enough information/ feeling invested into these new characters so one can't say are they good or not. Nor the plot line though the synopsis is a promise something good waiting to be read.
P.S. There is clear connection to The Gamer if you notice the golems in both stories are the same as well as the "Abyss."
