Side notes: I admit that this is a manga that I probably wouldn't have known if not randomly seen it on Bato.to to been translated in recent releases listing. And my curiosity hit the key after reading the synopsis and finding about the anime (there are 6 subbed episodes of 35).
I'm not usually keen of 80's art style in manga but this one made me forget it... although the style is really characteristic for manga of the time. Still the cover (above) made me think of BECK, a manga that I really like, so that made me take the bait and start reading this manga.
The plot is okay and even funnieh... though the comedy is old school. I goes well with the style of Ranma ½ which I tend to refer 'cause my knowledge of the 80's manga is limited into few pieces that I've liked enough to read them.>.<;
As I looked a bit around this manga I found out that the mangaka, Eguchi Hisashi, is quite famous for leaving works unfinished and Stop!! Hibari-kun!is no exception to this. There is 4 volumes but the ending is lacking some ways that I've not read yet but getting there someday so I can confirm what others have said... missing a decent ending... hope not... but we'll see.^-^
Kousaku Sakamoto
Kousaku is the protagonist of the series. He's a pure hearted boy from Kyushu, but is weak when it comes to girls. He constantly has to remind himself that Hibari isn't one.
Hibari Oozora (大空 ひばり)
Hibari is the only son of a Yakuza boss and has three sisters. He looks and dresses like a girl, much to his father's disdain - he calls him a weirdo (hentai) for this reason. Hibari is characterized by his beauty and wit, and he is also able to beat nearly everyone in a fight.
Hibari is also the idol of the school where he goes disguised fully as female, and he is excellent both in sports and grades. He has as main - unrequited - admirer Shiina, one of his classmates.
Hibari falls in love with Kohsaku (the main hero) as soon as he sees him, and continues to tease him even after Kohsaku learns that Hibari is indeed male and thus rejects him.
