Side notes: This manga is something that I've been trying to start reading if time but there is never time.>.< I'm somewhere middle of reading Magi (parent story) and I got interested this prequel when I read the main story. Also Sinbad is pretty famous character in many stories so it was interesting to see how he turned out to be here.^-^

To be honest I've now followed the anime series with the same title and not read the manga itself as much I should have but I'm making it chapter by chapter, slowly, but at least reading.^-^b The so called prequel or prototype oneshot is quite plain and short - not even a oneshot if thinking about it. The actual story gets started on the 1st chapter.

Art is okay and good for shounen but not excellent level and plot that's probably the main thing here. it gives a background check of the history and people that live in Magi's world and explains some things as well thoughts that they hold. I've not read enough to say where the plot is heading but as this is a long series there is also lots to find out that isn't on the anime, so if you like the anime you sure like the manga too.^-^b

Sinbad is the King of Sindria. He is a Dungeon Capturer, having captured seven Dungeons, and a King Vessel. He is also the leader of the Seven Seas Alliance. Sinbad has already halfway "fallen into depravity". He is often accompanied by members of the Eight Generals who are his most trusted companions.

Sinbad is a laid back and fun-loving person. He is somewhat infamous among his subjects for getting drunk and doing outrageous things, to the point that even his closest friends don't believe him when he says that he didn't take advantage of a young princess under the influence. He can be quite a flirt and is not above using his charm to get what he wants. He tends to remove his clothes when asleep.

Despite all this, he can be serious when the need arises and is a great and honorable king who is respected and admired by everyone, especially his subjects (whom he seems to consider a sort of extended family).

Notably, he has already halfway fallen, enabling him to use black magoi as well as white magoi.

Ja'far (ジャーファル)

One of the eight generals, he uses the weapon household's vessel "Balalark Sei." His loyalty towards Sinbad is so high that he'll approach anyone who insults him with murderous intent. When Sinbad does things as he pleases, Ja'far worries endlessly and sometimes even feels faint. 

Ja'far usually only wears official clothing as he only has one set of normal clothing he received from Sinbad when he was 14 years old.

His name is based from the "Harun al-Rashid's" persian vizier "Ja'far ibn Yahya" also known as "Ja'far al-Barmaki" which is one of the real people (not a fictional character) in "One Thousand and One Nights" stories. He appears in many stories in "One Thousand and One Nights" series.

Hinahoho (ヒナホホ)

Drakon (ドラコーン)

Full name: Dragul Nol Henrius Govius Menudias Partenuvonomias Dumid Os Kortanon

One of the eight generals. 

Drakon once had a human form. In the manga, Adventure of Sindbad or Sinbad no Bouken, it was revealed that Drakon was a soldier of the Partevia Kingdom. Sinbad and Drakon both survived and were able to get to Baal's throne room where both of them had a duel to see who'll be Baal's king. In the end, Sinbad won.
