Side notes: I came to this manga via watching the anime first. I freely admit that my knowledge about shounen and seinen without talking about josei and shoujo is really vague.>.<; I've read them for couple years now picking them as I go without any plan. Before that I rarely read anything from these genres... so maybe I'm growing up? XD As I probably have said my manga love is a bit outside these genres.^-^b Still I say, this is a gree-at manga with lovable charas and plot that just fits to my mood to read.... although I like adventure itsy bitsy more.^-^
Naru Kotoishi (琴石 なる)
Age: 6-7
Birthday: August 14
A girl in first grade who lives on the Goto Islands. She lives alone with her grandfather and frequently hangs out at Handa's house. Her personality is cheerful, childish and hyper. She usually thinks before she does. Proved by the many times she disobeys Handa.
Sei Handa (半田 清舟)
Age: 23
Birthday: April 15
A disgraced calligrapher who punched out an old man who criticized his calligraphy style as "academic." He goes to the Goto Islands in Nagasaki at the suggestion of his famous calligrapher father to focus more on his calligraphy as he waits out his exile. Along the way, he finds value in interactions with other people, in particular a tomboyish kid named Naru, and finds his inspiration and own personal style.
At first, Naru calls him "Junon Boy," referring to a particular magazine that features street pictures of male idols, suggesting (incorrectly) that he's a city-dwelling pretty boy of the kind that don't really exist in real life. Later on, she calls him, "Sensei."
