Side notes: I've seen some of the episodes of the original anime that was made from this manga or vice versa I'm not sure which one became first. So it's not totally something that I didn't know before... but I kinda got bored when watching the anime so I left it on hold.^-^ The art is quite good and I don't have anything against it. The story is also okay but as I said before the anime was left out from my active watching list 'cause I got bored. And that's the bit problematic part today too.XDDD But don't mistake that this is a bad story or manga, I'm just not that into historical themes and politics right now.^-^
Main characters
Balsa Yonsa (バルサ)
A skilled warrior from the faraway land Kanbal. Balsa wields her spear in order to save lives in atonement for the life that was spent on saving her, although she claims to be a simple hired bodyguard. She is around thirty. Balsa is pragmatic and intelligent, and does not hold much regard for class distinction customs.
Chagum
The second prince of the Imperial Family. Chagum bears the egg of the water spirit originally defeated by his ancestors. The spirit is said to be the cause of the "Drought Sign" read by the Empire's Star Diviners and in order to not shame the Imperial Family, Chagum has been silently condemned to death by his father, the emperor. To save her son, the empress hired Balsa to protect Chagum's life and flee from the imperial palace.
Tanda (タンダ)
Tanda is a Yaku herbalist who lives in the mountains. Even though he is the pupil of Torogai his skill as a shaman is lacking. However he is very skilled as a doctor, in part due to the fact that he always treated Balsa's wounds in the past.
At the time of the main story, Tanda and Balsa have been friends for nearly 20 years. During this time, Tanda's affections for Balsa have grown but he has yet to act on them for reasons that are later revealed. This relationship is depicted very realistically and adds great depth to both Tanda's and Balsa's characters.
Torogai (トロガイ)
Torogai is an old shaman and Tanda's teacher in the mystic arts. After learning of the water spirit and meeting with Balsa and the prince, she now tries to tries to unveil the truth behind Chagum's possession.
Touya (トーヤ)
