Synopsis: This world consists of two dimensions joined as one, like a mirror. The first is the world in which the humans live, Assiah. The other is the world of demons, Gehenna. Ordinarily, travel between the two, and indeed any kind of contact between the two, is impossible. However, the demons can pass over into this world by possessing anything that exist within it. Satan may be the king of demons, but there's one thing he doesn't have, and that's a substance in the human world which is powerful enough to contain him! For that purpose he created Rin, his son with a human woman, but will his son agree to his plans? Or will he become something else...like an exorcist?

Side note: Why would I suddenly pick this manga up? It's not a new manga and there has been no updates for a good while on any manga reading site for the series due of the English licence. Well the manga has been in the news lately and there is a countdown clock ticking on the official site ('till June 4 08.oo am)... so that was the reason to come back with this manga (which I like too).

The fifteen-year-old protagonist of the story, Rin is the son of Satan born from a human woman and is the inheritor of Satan's powers.
Rin can tap into the power he has inherited from Satan through the use of a demon-slaying katana, called Kurikara or Koumaken. The sheath acts as a portal to Gehenna (the demon world) which when drawn returns Rin to his demon form. While in his human form, Rin exhibits a number of physical traits that are signs of his demonic nature, such as sharper-looking teeth, slightly pointed ears, and a black, fur tufted tail (which he keeps hidden in his shirt). As a demon, Rin gains two blue flames that float above his head, long, elf-like ears, and his eyes turn bright blue. In both forms Rin can almost control his destructive bright blue flames, the trademark sign of Satan. However, when he draws Kurikara, the magnitude of the flames dramatically increase and often leads to Rin being "consumed" by his own flames and losing his mind. Rin also has a demon Familiar Cat Sith, Kuro, who was initially Father Fujimoto's.

Mephisto Pheles is the Chairman of True Cross Academy and also an Exorcist. After Fujimoto's death Pheles was ordered to kill Rin, however he accepted Rin's proposal in becoming an Exorcist and entered him into True Cross Academy. It has been heavily implied that he is the son of Satan along with his brother, the Earth King, Amaimon. He possesses the unique and peculiar ability of transforming into a small dog after counting to three in German. How powerful he is has not been shown but he has mentioned that he is an Honorary Knight, the position two ranks below Paladin. He has been shown responsible for allowing several higher class demons onto campus. His name is an obvious pun on the word Mephistopheles, which is name for the another infamous devil, similar to his father Satan.
Amaimon (アマイモン)

Also known as the "Earth King." Amaimon is supposedly the second son of Satan and another Demon Prince of Gehenna. Unlike his father and elder brother Mephisto, Amaimon had little interest in Rin after their first encounter.
He is a human-like demon. He has a spike of hair which is lightly colored compared to the rest of his dark green hair. He wears a jacket that has cross bones as buttons. He also wears a long sleeved green shirt under his jacket, which is ripped at the ends.
He appears to be calm and collected, but very confident in his powers. However he shows great anger and annoyance when someone gets in the way of his fun. He is very playful and doesn't take things seriously when it comes to fighting strong combatants which hints that he is very skilled in combat.

Shura Kirigakure (霧隠・シュラ)
She reveals herself in chapter 9, before that she had her face hidden beneath a hooded sweater and was known as Yamada.
The only information received in the manga so far is that she is an upper first class exorcist and a senior inspector. She was dispatched by the True Cross Vatican Headquarters to investigate the Japanese Branch's "risk factor".
She claims to be 18, but in chapter 11 Yukio said that she already turned 26, and she seems sensitive about her age, as she threw a beer can at him claiming 'her hand slipped' shortly after.
She is an Upper-First class Exorcist and Rin Okumura's mentor. She trained under the guidance of Shiro Fujimoto to obtain the title Meister as a Knight 2 years before Rin was born. She officially works as an Inspector for the Vatican, but has infiltrated True Cross Academy, first as a student under the name Yamada, and later as a teacher for the Exwires.
Shura has a rather laid-back personality and uses slang; such as using yer instead of your, you're, or you. She is also noted to be rather blunt, speaking freely about sensitive topics, as well as not being hesitant in pointing out others' flaws. Even with her superiors, she is not afraid to challenge them, which on a few occasions resulted in a physical conflict.

Shiemi is Rin's classmate and friend. Before she met Rin, Shiemi tended her grandmother's garden while her mother ran an Exorcist only shop inside True Cross Academy. During her encounter with Rin and Yukio, they were able to discover that Shiemi was having her life force leached out by a Demon. After Yukio exorcised the demon, Shiemi finally decided to become an Exorcist and started to attend class. It was later revealed that Shiemi had talent in becoming a Tamer, as she was able to summon a Greenman Spirit during class. It is apparently a rare talent to possess amongst the Exorcists, where there are only a few who can control demons and fight.

Father Fujimoto, Rin and Yukio's guardian, who was also considered to be one of the most powerful Exorcists in the world. He was thought to be the only man in the world that was able to sustain possession by Satan himself and thus Satan was constantly after his body. Fujimoto was able to fight off Satan's attempts at possessing his body through sheer willpower. However after receiving a mental shock from what Rin had said, Satan was finally able to take over his body and later killed him. Fujimoto had a familiar sith cat demon, which he called Kuro, that Rin has inherited. He was a confirmed Aria, Dragoon and tamer and could possibly have been a Knight and a Doctor as two of those who have studied under him have become these. He was said to be the strongest exorcist on the planet and was the only one to gain the rank of Paladin, the highest rank of the exorcists.

Nii-chan (ニーちゃん) aka. Nee
Nii-chan is Shiemi Moriyama's Familiar that she summons during the demonstration after Izumo Kamiki summoned two spirit foxes. It is a baby Greenman spirit that takes a liking to Shiemi often sitting on top of her head. Nii-chan aids Shiemi by producing plant from it's body such as aloe and sprouts tree branches as barriers. Nii-chan appears protective of Shiemi as he shields her from the falling debris during a mission in the amusement park with tree barriers. Possibly because it's still an infant, it does not think of Shiemi or the humans as a threat. It speaks by saying the phrase "Nii!"
Arthur Auguste Angel (アーサー・オーギュスト・エンジェル)
The newly appointed Paladin. He was ordered by the Grigori to to interrogate Mephisto and captured Rin as evidence. According to Shura he's a saint on the outside and a devil inside. Uses the demon sword Caliburn.
Appearance
Angel has long blonde hair in a pony tail, with a communicator in his ear, though it is unclear whether or not he wears it all the time. He wears a fancy white suit that is custom made. Rin makes fun of it.
Personality
Not much is known about Arthur so far, except that he is extremely loyal to the True Cross Order. He follows the orders of his superiors without questioning them at all, even attempting to kill people when they interfere with his work. He believes that anything related to Satan must be destroyed, as it could only cause harm to let them live. Arthur also seems to be slightly sadistic, as he stabbed Rin completely through the leg to immobilize him during Rin's trial, while remarking that the wound would heal soon enough. According to Shura, he is a saint on the outside and a devil on the inside, hinting that he may have a malicious personality.
Powers & Abilities
Despite not being seen in combat, it can be assumed that Arthur is extremely powerful, as he was given the rank of Paladin, which only the strongest exorcist in the world can hold. He wields a demon sword, called Caliburn, indicating that he obtained a Meister as a Knight.
His power is hinted at when he was quickly able to overcome Kirigakure Shura, one of the most powerful exorcists seen in the series.
Caliburn his demon blade, seems to be able to talk, and has the personality of a little girl who adores Arthur. He's willing to cut some of his hair, using Caliburn, in exchange for power.

Suguro Ryuji (nicknamed "Bon") is Rin's rival and the prodigy in the class. He was the child of the Cursed Temple which was destroyed by Satan 16 years ago. Bon takes everything seriously and is trying his hardest in order to become an Exorcist powerful enough so he could one day defeat Satan ( a goal he claims Rin stole from him) and rebuild his Temple. Currently Bon is trying to acquire the title of Meister in both Aria (a person who recites holy texts to kill certain demons) and Dragoon (a person who fights with heavy artillery). He is currently an Exwire.

Mamushi Houjou (宝生蝮)

He and Houjou Mamushi are childhood friends and attended the Exorcist cram school together.

Renzou is a very carefree character, yet he has a fear of many things, mainly bugs. He's very loyal to Bon, his childhood friend. They grew up together along with Konekomaru in Kyoto. He is also has a big obsession with women. Plans to become a Meister in Aria
He is the 5th and youngest son of his family, and tells Konekomaru he's glad of this because it means he has less responsibilities. His older brother Juuzou says he's the pervert out of the brothers.
He has pink (dyed) hair. It is naturally black. In the manga, Renzou wears a man-tailored (flannel sort of) shirt over a t-shirt with a symbol, sort of like a bulls-eye. Renzou also carries around K'rik (Khakkhara) staff, which he and his two brothers also have.
Renzou is a carefree character and was the first person to actually befriend Rin since the revealing of the blue flames, which shows Renzou is the friendly-type. He is also afraid of bugs, yet he is known as the pervert out of the Shima brothers.
Renzou was born into the temple that Bon and Konekumaru was in as well, making him the childhood friend of the two.

Kinzou is the fourth son of the Shima family, Renzou's older brother. He seems to be a pretty simple guy who is ruled by his emotions, kicking his little brother in the head as a greeting and paying no attention to the conversation at breakfast, preferring to stuff his face.

Takara is a quiet, mysterious character. He is also somewhat of a ventriloquist. He hasn't talked much, and when he does, it's usually through ventriloquism.
He is short, only slightly taller than Konekomaru, and wears the typical True Cross Academy uniform. Has yet to be shown opening his eyes and is always seen with his rabbit puppet.
Not much is known about him he also did not contribute to the group effort in the Esquire exam. However, when he speaks with his rabbit puppet, the voice and tone is usually very rude.
Lewin Light (ルーイン･ライ)
Lewin Light who also goes by the name Lightning, is an Arc Knight and an Exorcist of the True Cross Order. He is the traveling companion of Arthur A. Angel.
His first appearance is in chapter 38 (volume 10).
