Side notes: I started to read this a long time ago and never got into the end... 'cause I didn't get the idea of the story at all... and for that reason it's been on hold forever.XDDD I know that this is popular series and I'm kinda feeling only one left out of the train with this one. I've not seen the anime so I'm probably heading that way so that I could get this series into some kind of perspective...as it is a long running manga with 24 volumes... but as you might have already read... I'm not liking the genre type "Alice in Wonderland" a lot so that can also affect to my point of view.^-^

The art is good and the start of the manga is okay but the feeling under the surface isn't to my liking and I'm slow progressing with reading this story. If I have something else that I like to read more this manga is the one standing in the corner to wait some other time for me to read it.

Main characters

Gilbert Nightray (ギルバート ナイトレイ)
Age: 24
Birthday: February 5
Height: 182 cm
Blood type: B

Oz's best friend and loyal servant. To him, Oz is his most precious person, and he is willing to sacrifice anything for him. He was taken into the Bezarious family after being discovered in an injured state 15 years ago. He was invited by Oz to attend the coming of age ceremony as his friend. During the ceremony, he was controlled by a chain in the Baskerville's possession and forced to attack Oz. After regaining consciousness, Gilbert manages to see the face of one of the hooded people and for some reason jumps in the way of Oz's attack to protect him.

Alice (アリス)
Birthday: July 20th
Height: 150cm
Blood Type: O

The heroine of the series, Alice first appears as a chain that persuades Oz to form a contract with her in the Abyss. In fact, she is actually the infamous B-Rabbit (Bloodstained Black Rabbit), the strongest chain in the Abyss. Alice's goal is to find her lost memories, which play a major role in the story. In human form, Alice has long dark brown hair with 2 side plaits. She has a huge appetite and loves meat especially. She is hotheaded, loud spoken and says what she thinks without regard to the consequence. Despite this, she has a soft side, especially when Oz is involved. She hates when Oz leaves her alone, but to hide it she usually says, "I'm in a contract with you. You are my manservant, and as a manservant, what were you thinking, leaving me behind!?" or she just hits Oz and says, "Shut up."

Oz Vessalius (オズ ベザリウス)
Birthday: December 26
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Height: 164 cm (5'5")
Blood Type: O

The main character of the story. A 15-year-old boy with blond hair and green eyes from the prestigious Vessalius family, whose father is the reigning lord. His mother was killed by the Nightray family, but despite this, he retains a bright, optimistic, and energetic personality. The story of Pandora Hearts starts when Oz turns fifteen. During the ceremony to celebrate this reaching of adulthood, he was dragged into the Abyss for the sin of "existing." There he meets the chain named Alice and makes a contract with her.

Supporting

Xerxes Break (ザークシーズ=ブレイク)

Birthday: September 30th (Libra)

Commonly known as Break, he is a member of Pandora and a servant of the Rainsworth household. Break's appearance does not change from the ten year gap between Oz entering and leaving the Abyss. He has a legal contract with the Mad Hatter. Break is often seen with a doll on his shoulder, which he calls Emily. He adores sweets and cakes. From the outside, Break seems like a carefree character, never serious and always smiling. When needs be, however, Break shows his dangerous and evil side. Reim tells Oz that Break has not always been the way he is now. Before, after losing his eye, he was a bitter and angry person, never smiling. However, through the kindness of Shelly, Sharon's mother, he began to open up. He has sworn absolute loyalty to Shelly.

Elliot Nightray (エリオット ナイトレイ)
Birthday: August 8
Zodiac sign: Leo
Blood type: A

Elliot is the step brother of Gilbert Nightray and Vincent Nightray. Elliot is the only remaining son of the Nightray couples and is the heir to the Nightray family.

Elliot is hotheaded, outspoken and always forces his opinions on everybody else. Ada, however, thinks he is a nice and dependable person deep down. He first meets Oz in the Latowidge library where they get into a fight over a character in the novel series "Holy Knight" (Elliot spoils the ending for Oz's favorite character, Edgar). He hated the Vessalius family. He also doesn't like Ada calling his name and despises how the Vessalius seem to get away with anything just because they were heroes 100 years ago. He seems to be greatly annoyed by Gilbert, but in reality cares about him.

In recent chapters, however, Elliot's hatred towards Oz has dissipated, and the two of them have become good friends.

Vincent Nightray (ヴィンセント ナイトレイ)

Birthdate: September 23
Zodiac: Virgo

Vincent is Gilbert's younger brother by one year. As the Vessalius family found Gilbert, the Nightray family similarly adopted Vincent. His left eye is golden like Gilbert's, but his right eye is wine-red and his long hair is golden in color. He loves his brother Gilbert to the point of slight obsession. He has an easy-going personality on the outside and is often seen smiling; however, it is shown that Vincent also has a dark, unstable side.

Jack Vessalius (ジャック ベザリウス)

Birthdate: Jan 19

The hero of 100 years ago and the one who defeated Glen Baskerville. He is revealed to have some sort of connection with Alice's memories and Raven's past. Jack looks uncannily like a grown-up Oz with a long plait. His personality is also quite similar; he does things at his own pace and is loud and cheerful. Oz and Gilbert meet him when they are taken to the Cheshire Cat's dimension.
