Arawi Keiichi | Nichijou

Japanese: 日常
English: Nichijou
Synonyms: Everyday, My Ordinary Life
Type: Manga
Volumes: 10
Chapters: 210
Status: Completed
Published: Jun 26, 2006 to Oct 26, 2015
Genres: Comedy, School, Shounen
Mangaka: Arawi Keiichi (Story & Art)
Serialization: Shounen Ace

Synopsis: While the title suggests a story of simple, everyday school life, the contents are more the opposite. The setting is a strange school where you may see the principal wrestle a deer or a robot's arm hide a rollcake. However there are still normal stories, like making a card castle or taking a test you didn't study for. The art style is cute but mixes with extreme expressions and action sequences for surprising comedy bits. (MAL)

Baka updates: While the title means “everyday life,” the contents are anything but everyday. It follows the bizarre and completely insane “everyday life” of a group of high school students.

Side notes: This manga is pretty hilarious and that's sure the reason for its popularity and getting an anime adaptation too. Well the anime is something that I've not seen so I added it onto my plan to watch and about the manga... I try to fit it some corner so I can continue reading it (after all I managed to read the novel series that I was reading earlier to its latest released chapter).^-^b Art is pretty simple but it's not bad any way and this is probably one of my favorites of today's mangas. So I'm sure that quite many like it and there is no reason why not to check it out if you have not already done so.^-^

Main characters

Yuuko Aioi (相生 祐子)
Birthday: May 26

An energetic high school girl with short brown hair. One of her negative sides is that she is often too lazy to do her own homework and always copies from either Mio or Mai.

Hakase Shinonome (はかせ)

An eight-year-old mad scientist who created Nano, often making various adjustments to her without her noticing but never getting round to removing the obvious wind-up key from her back. Hakase has light-ginger hair, and sapphire-blue eyes. She wears a lab coat much too large for her. Despite her intellect, she still acts like any child of her age. Her favorite animal is the shark.

Sakamoto (阪本)

A black cat who wears a scarf created by the Professor, which allows him to speak. Being theoretically older than both Nano and the Professor when converting cat years to human years, he speaks in a condescending tone towards them, though he occasionally succumbs to his catlike habits.

Mio Naganohara (長野原みお)

A bright and cheerful girl sporting light blue hair and pigtails held by two small wooden cubes. She has a crush on Kojiro. She's usually a calm and collected person who can support her friends whenever they're in a pinch. But she's a lot more sensitive than she lets on, and more often than not needs that support back in return.

Mai Minakami (水上 麻衣)

A rather quiet girl who is very intelligent and often is seen with a book. She is seen to be multi-talented, excelling at using projectiles, arm wrestling, and especially pulling pranks, usually at the expense of Yuuko.

Nano Shinonome (東雲 なの)

A robotic schoolgirl that was built by a Professor. She often worries about keeping her identity as a robot from others, despite the fact everyone already knows about it due to the noticeable wind-up key exposed on her back. Luckily most don't make a big fuss about it.

Her limbs will sometimes fall apart, revealing dubious items that Professor has installed without her noticing, ranging from bean-firing-weapons to Swiss rolls. She is also the Professor's caretaker.

She wishes to live life as a normal girl and therefore really wants the wind-up key on her back removed.

Nano is a very mature and responsible girl who often needs to stop Hakase from eating too many sweets.
