Fukuta Neko somehow finds herself applying to and enrolling in a secret school created by and specifically for animal/human shapeshifters, though only after difficult tribulations with those who manage the school. Neko befriends a fellow classmate , the cute Suzuhara Miika, prior to the tough task of enrolling, and afterwards discovers her new found friend's 'feline' side, though this changes nothing in regards to the close relationship just started between them. Join Neko on her journey into the mysteries of the prosperous Moritaka school for the sons and daughters of this literal Noah's ark.

Main characters
Neko Fukuta
She has short, light brown hair and is depicted as cheerful and friendly to others, but is bad at her studies. She managed to get into Moritaka academy by begging to be let in and answering three odd questions: Can you keep cool if you know the truth? Can you get along with others? Can you conceal that you are a human? She met and befriended Miiko prior to enrolling when she was on a train. Neko is the one of two only humans at the academy, and keeps her true identity hidden by pretending to be a cat (her name literally means "cat" in Japanese).
Miiko Suzuhara
The first person Neko befriended from Moritaka academy. Miiko has wavy blue hair done up in two high ponytails, and is described by Neko to have eyes the colour of a beautiful ocean. Miiko is rather quiet and unsociable, but is quite friendly towards her friends. She is actually a cat and dislikes others who are not her kind, often slapping them or yelling at them when they come too close to her. She is good friends with Neko, whom she affectionately nicknames "Fune", and often becomes jealous when Neko becomes friends with others. She is able to tell which animals people are by smell, and loves Neko's scent, whom she considers comforting. Miiko has a purse that she always put on. Almost most of the time, she never removes the purse even when she's sleeping and it was given to her by her beloved master. She came to Animal Academy to live as a human and finally say to her master that she liked him. Throughout the series, Miiko becomes more independent.
