Side notes: This manga has been on my plan-to-read -list for some time.^-^ Soo I decided to dust it a bit and present it here as it fits today's theme. Also the reviews for this manga rise my trust to pick it ups as it scores both on MAL and Baka over 8.00 level. Still after the first volume I's left wondering why is this series so popular. Stories for me were quite simplistic to read although there was no "bad feeling" involved. Art is pretty plain and clean so it's okay for that reason. A small note from the first volume omake: There is no "fanservice" and it's thought if it's okay for the series be like that. In my case it's okay to be like that but... well it all comes to reader and what they prefer.^-^

Mizushima Tooru (class 2-3) is one of the few people born with no Iris, an Iris Zero. Because of that, he was bullied in childhood and is desperately trying not to stand out in any way. His motto is "Minimal Exposure" but after Sasamori Koyuki, one of the most popular girls in school (and therefore his natural enemy), takes interest in him, it starts to become more and more difficult for him to not being noticed.
Tooru's best friend is Shinozuka Hijiri (class 2-6) and he's known Yuki Asahi (also 2-6) from childhood, though for a long time they were far from what could be called "friendship."
He is very good at solving puzzles concerning other people's feelings—he's developed an ability to see things from other people's perspective as a way of protecting himself from being bullied. Still he's quite reluctant to do anything, unless it concerns preventing himself from being exposed.
He has a really sweet tooth.
Koyuki Sasamori (佐々森 小雪)

Because of her Iris that allows her to see people "qualified" (O above the person's head) or "unqualified"(X above the head) to any task she thinks of at the moment, she is chosen to find a new Student Council President. After it becomes more difficult than she thought, she turns to Mizushima Toru, a person "qualified" to help her. Because of her popularity in school, he's far from being delighted with her, but in the end he helps her.
Very grateful, she tries to become closer to Toru, even though he's clearly avoiding her.
Koyuki is cute, cheerful, helpful and popular. She's in class 2-6 along with her best friend Yuki Asahi and Toru's best (and only actually) friend, Shinozuka Hijiri. Koyuki can't say "no" when someone asks her for favor, so sometimes she's quite busy. Also she's always very concerned about others which is sometimes seen (by Toru, for example) as just her being meddlesome.
Hijiri Shinozuka (篠塚 聖)

Being an Iris Zero, Toru isn't too popular, but Hijiri doesn't care about that and is his best friend. He always seems carefree and easygoing—the sleeves of his uniform seem to be longer than necessary—but there is more to him than meets the eye. Very few people know about his Iris—as he is keeping that secret—and it was only Tooru that was able to see through him.
Nanase Kuga (久賀 七瀬)

Classmate of Toru (2-6) whose Iris lets her see people emotions based on a color their "wings" have (for example "anxious" purple). She's a quiet girl with kinda sleepy expression on her face. She's a childhood friend of Tokita Harumi and is in love with a boy called Houjou.
Asahi Yuki (結城 あさひ)
Birthday: July 3

Asahi was Toru's friend in childhood, one of a few who knew about him being an Iris Zero. When they got into fight she revealed his secret, causing him to become a victim of bullying—that made them more of "childhood enemies" than "childhood friends." Asahi is now Sasamori Koyuki's best friend, together with her in class 2-6. When Asahi slaps her homeroom teacher, Fujimura-sensei, Koyuki runs to Toru (who's "qualified" to help) and makes him resolve the problem—thus causing Toru and Asahi to eventually make up.
With her Iris's power Asahi can see a devil's tails growing out of people when they are lying. She has a strong sense of justice and was aspiring to become a police officer in the future. After the incident she decided to aim for being a lawyer instead. She is strong-willed and independent though she is afraid of ghost and the-like.
Harumi Tokita (時田 晴海)

Toru's classmate, a bespectacled and kind of mysterious guy. Childhood friend of Kuga Nanase. He seems to be a cold, scheming type, who doesn't care for others and plans something behind the curtains... Even though in volumes' omakes he's pictured as a pervert type.
