One day Ido, a former Tipharean citizen and doctor specializing in cyborg repairs, finds the intact head of young cyborg-girl in a vast pile of scrap. He takes her in, gives her a body and the name Alita. Alita then discovers long forgotten fighting techniques hidden in her body and decides to become a hunter-warrior; a bounty collector employed by the factories of Tiphares. (MAL)

Side notes: This manga is something that I've actually managed to read in real manga form in local library (there is not that many mangas to choose from so it's really nice to have the chance to read this one.) Still I admit that I was a really a kid then so my memory isn't serving so well how the story goes.XDDD I's just into sci-fi back then and I read all and everything from that genre whenever that was possible.^-^ Oh but art, it's on great level but one can need some soft adjustment depending on the taste of art.
Main character
Gally (ガリィ)
Alita's decapitated head is found in the scrapyard below the floating city of Tiphares by the Hunter Warrior Daisuke Ido. Ido fixes her up, gives her a body and raises her as his own. Soon enough, Alita joins Ido as a Hunter Warrior, hunting bounties throughout the scrapyard city. She has no recollection of her past, and Alita's only link to her former self is her 'Panzer Kunst', a cyborg martial art she somehow remembers. While trying to embrace her new life and protect those dear to her, Alita is eventually caught up in the struggle between the utopian society of Tiphares and the suppressed surface dwellers.
