Synopsis: In the panic surrounding a worldwide pandemic which kills 15 percent of the population and cripples many more, a secret organization, the Propater, topples the UN and seizes control of much of the world. A boy and a girl, raised in an abandoned virology research center, immune to the virus, are attacked by the Propater and escape.

Twenty years later, the boy is the most powerful drug lord in South America. He aids his son from behind the scenes as he evades and eventually with the help of mercenaries from Nomad (some of them former Propater operatives) fights the Propater. As the plot develops focus shifts away from the main character and develops many sub-plots dedicated to terrorism, Human-improvement, the struggle of the developing countries and the power battles between the drug cartels and Propater.

Based strongly on Gnostic mythology, all major characters are named after gnostic deities, and have analogous roles.

Side notes: This manga has gotten a lot negative comments about it's killing rate. So as you can guess it's not a kids manga. And it is pretty odd one too. Or so I do think as I'm not reading many of this type of stories. There is also a time jump like 20 years from the past to present day and to the character of Elijah Ballard (though this information comes after he meets the Nomads). I'm still in and out thinking do I like the story or not. The art is okay and sometimes it really excels itself to a great level of art. The mecha is a bit rustic so to say so if thinking the age of the manga is most clearly seen on there.

Main characters

Elijah Ballard, 15

The son of the famous drug lord Enoa Ballard, Elijah and the rest of his family is soon swept along on waves of trouble due to their father's antagonism towards Propater. Only nearly eluding capture by Propater agents, Elijah starts his journey being on the run from his father's enemies, but soon return to rescue his mother and sister from their captors. Starting out as a naive child, Elijah soon experience the harshness of the world first hand, and if the world is cruel, then he too, must be.

Kenji Asai

The brother of a low-level yakuza boss, Kenji is extremely skilled at hand-to-hand combat. Kenji is even able to go hand-to-hand with the aeons. While he initially appears to be a sociopath, killing both soldiers and non-combatants without any signs of remorse, flashbacks in the fourth volume show him to be a psychologically complex character who is driven by basic human needs such as love and meaning.

Sophia Theodores, 41

Ingenious but mentally troubled since her youth, she had countless short relationships and bore many children whom she sent to orphanages, until she was involved in an accident and subsequently turned into a cyborg. Choosing the body of a young girl instead of her much older real appearance, she is much more mature and motherly than she ever were in the past.

Sophia served as the hacker for the Nomad team that Elijah joined while fleeing from Propater, and would assist him more later on.

Lethia Aleetheia

An artificial human created from the Maya backup copy that Elijah smuggled along with him. Due to her cyborg body, she sports very impressive combat skills, and is also adept at hacking.

Enoa Ballard

The son of Chris Ballard and Linda Aurique, Enoa grew up on the Eden facility with Hana Mayer and their guardian Lane Morris. After Propater came to Eden, Enoa and Hana escaped, eventually married and had three children.

The leader of a great drug cartel, Enoa is one of the most influential in the world's underground, but is constantly at odds against Propater, which puts his family in a tricky position.

Miriam Arona

A young police officer in Peru who eventually joins Elijah to exact revenge for the murder of her former partner.

Maya

An AI of mysterious origins who spreads seeds of himself throughout the internet from his original corporeal body. His intentions, abilities and origins remains unclear, but he seems to be connected somehow to the Colloid and the Earth itself.

Lane Morris

An expert studying viruses and their antidotes. He was a gay man in love with Enoa's father, Chris (but this love was unrequited). Eventually he was partially or even more responsible of the epidemic and it's cure not being effective. He took care of Enoa and Hana.
