After aiding an impressive arrest in Ellsworth, Kansas, gunman Wyatt Earp is recruited to help defend justice in Dodge City, Kansas alongside Bat Masterson. On the way to Dodge City, Wyatt meets a lovely young singer, Dora, who seems to be in danger. Will Wyatt be up to the difficult task of defending the law in Dodge City?

Side notes: This is a short story although there is lots and lots of books about the Wyatt Earp and the Wild West. There are good stories about him as well as stories that don't make him the great hero of Justice... so it's kinda interesting to see how the story converts into a manga.^-^
The time is about 1876, if following the real life events of Wyatt Earp (March 19, 1848 – January 13, 1929). At that time he followed his brother James to the Dodge City and became assistant city marshal. Still the manga story starts from the events of OK Corral 1881 - the shootdown between the "Cowboys" vs. Earl brothers (Earl, Morgan and Virgil) and Doc Holliday. And then it turns back in time to 1873 that is more or less Wyatt's (25) "wild" period after his first wife's death and his second marriage.
The art is... not on a good level and it varies a lot from greatly detailed work to total blank expressions. It is also more western type as the story goes. And although there is only one chapter translated it's easy already to see why there is no continuation for the story and why it is left to the one volume (author has problems making the story in the shadow of the legend... so if making something of his/ hers own fiction and fitting it into real life story... no-t easy.)
Main character
Wyatt Earp |
The manga presents the "cool guy" Wyatt Earp while his brother Virgil is more laid-back type. The youngest brother of three, Morgan, is more or less type to "act before thinking" if there was injustice. Other brothers/ sisters are not presented here.
Supporting
Bartholomew Masterson, presented as the Marshall of Dodge City hiring Wyatt Earp. (rl name: William Barclay "Bat" Masterson) |
Virgil Earp, oldest brother of three. |
Morgan Earp, youngest brother of three. |
