Side notes: I've been wondering a long time what it is that makes this manga so popular. I've not seen the anime nor read the manga so as the opportunity came I took it.^-^ The art is on a good level although the story start isn't anything unheard of but it gives a good idea what's the manga is and sets the pacing for the upcoming chapters. The style is almost shoujoish but the pacing and used panels give it a total shounen feel. I'm still reading this manga and not made any final conclusions about it yet... but it seems quite fun and reserving the hype around it.^-^

A third year student and the president of the drama club. He is good at acting and used to appear in plays, but stopped due to his short height. He is now in charge of props. Kashima always causes him trouble, where she has a habit of skipping class and club duties. It has become Hori's job to see to it that she doesn't slack around, usually doing so in such an aggressive manner that he has gained a reputation as Kashima's Escort. He is often like a doting parent to Kashima, but it may also suggest that he too has feelings for her despite his strong denials.
He is also Nozaki's assistant who is in charge of the backgrounds.
His best subjects are mathematics and physics. When asked by Mikoshiba what his favourite type of girl is, he claims that he likes girls with nice legs.
Yuu Kashima (鹿島 遊)

The prince of the school, even though she is female. She is very popular among the female students and flirts with them. She is part of the drama club.
Kashima displays a somewhat princely personality, often flirting with the girls and calling them, "hime" (Japanese for "princess"). She has a firm loyalty towards Hori (whom she calls Hori-chan-senpai), and often seeks his attention. She tries to please Hori, but more often than not, misunderstands the situation and ends up getting things very wrong. For example, she mistook Hori's interest in shoujo manga as a desire to dress and act as a girl, and ended up doing many embarrassing things to Hori such as leaving skirts in his locker.
She has a habit of skipping class and club duties, which finds herself in trouble with her drama club president, Hori, who literally has to go rough on her. She is known to excel in all school subjects and is good in all sports, but is tone deaf. She dislikes pungent food.
Mikoto Mikoshiba (御子柴 実琴)

Mikoto Mikoshiba also known as Mikorin, is one of Nozaki's assistants and Yuu Kashima's best friend and classmate.
Mikoto attracts the attention of many girls, and is admired by the males as well. However in reality, he has a timid and "tsundere" attitude. While outwardly he flirts with girls shamelessly and confidently, afterwards, he cringes and becomes embarrassed beyond words at his own actions. It is discovered that his personality is actually the inspiration for Nozaki's heroine character.
Mikoto has no drawing skills when it comes to characters or single objects, but he is skilled at drawing flowers, effects and accessories to bring out the charm in characters.
Mikorin likes gentle, modest, and innocent types of girls but most of those kind of girls are too intimidated by him.
He lives with his dad, his mom, and his cat. Mikorin is good in Biology and English class, but doesn't do as well in Government class. Mikorin likes to eat hamburgers and does not like peppers and bitter things.
In a deleted Tweet, his voice actor, Nobuhiko Okamoto, mentioned that Mikorin uses horse shampoo to wash his hair.
Umetarou Nozaki (野崎 梅太郎)

Umetarou Nozaki is a talented manga artist who has a lot of passion for his two main characters, Saburo Suzuki and Mamiko. In fact, he is so passionate about manga that his life seems to revolve solely around doing research for it. For example, he loves Valentine's Day because the great variety of chocolates and pretty packaging make great references.
Nozaki is extremely blunt when it comes to things like pointing at a girl's bra and saying that it is showing, and explaining to Sakura that he had never experienced his first love, despite the fact that he claims he is a love expert. He is oblivious and dense when it comes to love and feelings himself, especially those of Sakura. He is so oblivious and dense to the point that he appears silly at times, doing absurd things such as trying on a girl's sailor uniform for research. Despite him being oblivious to Sakura's crush on him, he enjoys her presence and is often seen both around and outside of school with her.
He is a manga artist under the pen name Sakiko Yumeno, the creator of the shoujo manga "Let's Fall in Love". This manga is published in a magazine called Monthly Shoujo Romance.
Despite making a romance-oriented manga praised for its sensitivity to girls' feelings, he has no personal experience in love and is rather blunt towards girls. His story ideas are often ridiculous and farfetched, and he is rather unromantic in real life. He appreciates Chiyo's drawing ability but is apparently oblivious to her feelings

Chiyo is a bright, cheerful and excitable young girl. She has been shown to be very easily influenced, often letting her imagination go wild. For example, she became excited when Mikoshiba first introduced her to Kashima and hugely misjudged their relationship. Chiyo has also been shown, for the most part, to be able to get along with others. Although she is often surprised, and sometimes even annoyed, by many of her friends' odd personalities and antics, she is friendly to them regardless. For instance, even though Yuzuki Seo is often rude to people, she still managed to be friends with her. This may be partly due to her slight naïveté, however, she often cannot tell why people are annoyed by Yuzuki. Outside of school, Chiyo is also passionate about drawing, as she is a member of the Arts club and enjoys helping out Nozaki with his manga. Her art style is very classical and has a lot of detail.
Chiyo constantly struggles to convey her feelings to her crush Nozaki. Usually jovial, Chiyo is often irked and depressed by her failed attempts to improve her relationship with Nozaki. In her first effort to confess to him he mistakenly misinterpreted her confession as declaring herself as one of his fans much to her dismay. Since helping his mangaka work as an assistant, she has continued her attempts at winning his affection although her endeavors are often fruitless due to a mixture of bad luck and Nozaki's ironic lack of romanticism. Nevertheless, she does not give up and continues to work hard, something that has constantly concerned others about her borderline fixation on Nozaki.
Yuzuki Seo (瀬尾 結月)

Sakura's classmate who can easily offend people. She acts on impulse and is inconsiderate of other people. She is a member of the choir club, and her singing voice is beautiful enough that she is referred to as "Lorelei."
She lives relatively near to the school, and usually goes to school by bicycle. Incidentally, she also lives near to the train station, and would occasionally go to school by train whenever she feels like it. Her best subjects are Mathematics and History, but does not do as well in Japanese.
Hirotaka Wakamatsu (若松 博隆)

Freshman who belongs to the basketball club and has known Nozaki since middle school since they were in the same basketball club.
He played against Seo in a basketball match. Her rough play made him unable to sleep. He was able to sleep soundly, later, thanks to the voice of Lorelei, though he doesn't know her true identity.
His best subjects are sports and English, but is not very good in Japanese. His family consists of his father, mother, elder sister, and younger brother (who is in elementary school). His type of girl are girls with cute personalities and are smaller than him.
